shino in electric

updated wed 5 oct 05

Just thought I would share this. Just unloaded my kiln I fired yesterday.

Electric. Cone 7 in the sitter. Fast fired up and down, just let the kiln
do it.

Got out a nice shino type vase. Used nutmeg that I adjusted by changing out
the kaolin for redart 1 for 1. Brushed on the nutmeg variation with one
thin coat. It can also be sprayed. Also then sprayed a thin layer of WoDo
White. Varied the application on the piece with WoDo.

Turned out very nice.

As soon as I can get the picture uploaded to my site I will send a link to
anyone interested.

Both Nutmeg (Richard Bursch) and WoDo White are well known glazes in the
archives for those that want the recipe. Just make sure you get the latest
version of WoDo white. Nutmeg just replace the kaolin with redart 1 for 1.

To view a picture go to this site of the shino vase. The picture thought
does not do it justice as the red is more pronounced. The tan is a matt
tan.

Randy,
That is stunning! I work at cone 6 and was in the process of using Richard
Bursch's Nutmeg. I looked in the glaze database and is the latest WODO the
one as follows:
Nep. Syenite 39.8
Dolomite 20.3
Wollastonite 4.9
Ball Clay 16.3
Silica 18.7

I am mixing test batches of glaze today...I will run this through the calc.
program....but I sure hope this is ther right one.
Congrats on a beautiful Shino.
Joan
