i heard from a very good friend in new zealand of using Varnish to do the same only better.
varnish your design on the pot. it's very durable. let dry. wipe down the pot with a damp to almost wet cloth & slowly develop a relief surface. repeat several times to get progressively deeper.
the varnish burns off in bisque.
