Gale, I neglected to mention, I give each gallon a "shot" of household
clorine bleach. keeps for months even out here in the heat of Arizona.
Also have had some glazes stink. Cal Red and Mel's (Garage Sale) Mirror
Black, never had happened previously, I think it was caused by a new
shipment of contaminated Red Iron Oxide. Bleach solved the problem. now i
put in some as a prophylactic where ever i notice or suspect a problem.
Doesn't take much. Leaves a hardly discernable bleach odor. hasn't
noticeably effected the glaze propreties or characteristics for application
or fired results. Of course we each must do our own testing and some
glazes may be more sensitive.
Add note, Bleach is not a good solution for stinky clay. Good personal and
studio hygine is. As with antibiotics for undesirable health conditions,
bleach in clay kills the valuable flora and fauna living in good ageing clay
as well as the stinky things one is chaseing.
