cmc question

I've been checking the Clayart archives about the use of CMC gum, but can't
find an answer to this one. Can you still use a batch of CMC solution if
it's gone rancid? I recently found some on a back shelf. It's a couple of
years old and has some interesting alien life forms growing on the
surface. Should I just pitch it? Also, what am I supposed to add to a
fresh batch to keep this from happening in the future? Would rubbing
alcohol work?

Pitch the bad stuff and make a new batch, It is not expensive .
I have had good results in CMC storage by adding a tiny bit of copper
sulfate (blue stone).
About a pea size in a half gallon jug of CMC should be enough.

My solution:
I refridgerate my CMC . The only problem I've had
since is that someone mistakenly through it out...
