I neglected to mention in my earlier post that the Formica used was the
closest I could find in Value and color to the standard Kodk Grey
Card(17% reflectance). Makes exposure easier and contrasts with both
dark and light wares. 17% is right down the 'middle'.

Hank,

You bring up a good point about exposure meters: they're designed to
yield that Kodak 17% gray. If I remember correctly from Ansel Adams'
Zone system, the palm of the human hand is one stop down from that.
That tidbit always gave me wonderfully exposed negatives for black
and while film.

Now the question: do the exposure meters on new digital cameras aim
for the same gray scale? What is the equivalent in the color scale
or is there one?
