Hi Folks,
Been off list awhile. Started reading posts again last week.
Definitely appreciate the ceramic stimulus.
Has anyone tried doing anything with the oil burner Frank Colson posted
alittle while back? The, umm, Guadalahara glass furnace burner?
For anyone who knows the design:
Does it develop back pressure?
Need any kind of check valve?
Is the ceramic component tapered (it is refered to in the drawing as a
cone)?
Light guage metal sleeve?
LPG just hit $3.40 out here. I had it here for 1.75 June.
Time to get the vegoil cranking.
Any other current work with natural draft oil burners?
Other vegoil systems?

you can also modify a residential heating oil burner to burn veg oil by
making a preheater out of copper pipe fittings, installing a "siphon
nozzle" which uses compressed air to draw the oil up and atomize it, and a
special flame retention head made by Kagi Heating specifically for waste
oil furnaces. This is what i am doing, the burners are done and work fine,
i am just making a few changes to the compressed air system since these
burners do use a lot of air. I should have a website going on line soon
after the burners have been put into use in my 70 cu.ft. downdraft and plan
to post lots of info about them.

And also, I wonder if one might make an 'HVLP' version?

Phil,
the oil is pre-heated to 320F with the system i have and the preheater is
just before the nozzle so i guess that's how hot the nozzle gets as well.
It basically already is an HVLP thing as the oil is gravity fed and the
burners will run with as little as 3 psi, which is where some people keep
them when used to heat residential furnaces. But a kiln is a totally
different thing, you need to push a lot of oil through the nozzles and to
do that you need more compressed air, at least with the system i have.
