Dear Bill: the world needs more teachers like you. You sound like a
fantastic teacher. If I may speak for Kelly though she is juggling two balls
that each are very luring. She likes the teaching ball and the potter's
ball. Bill, you probably have never been a full time potter. If you had you
could utter the words "Im not off to work, I'm off to the studio" If you
could make your living as a potter would you still want to be a teacher?
that is what Kelly is wrestling with. Don't tell anyone on the list this,
but i make more money as a potter than i do as a teacher. It's simple if I
need more money I work longer and make more pots. As a teacher if I need
more money working longer doesn't do a diddley damn. If you really think
that teaching is a journey ya ought to try being a potter. I teach and come
home to a list of skills that include making, selling and your arm isn't
long enough to list the rest.
I love it! What i like most about it is -if it were easy everyone would be
doing it! Few can!
Cheers,
Tony

Hey Tony, I certainly agree.

My short stint as a full-time potter came between graduate school and
full-time teaching. As a full time potter and part-time teacher I worked my
ass off. I actually had some investors willing to put up the funds to help
me get started in a pottery business in a store front. Who knows where I'd
be if I had taken that journey.

When the offer of full-time teaching came my way, I debated the options.
My head said pottery, but my heart said teaching. For me, I made the right
choice and have never regretted my decision.

Bill: Lovely answer. My problem is I always wear my heart on my shirt
sleeve.
Looking forward to meeting you.

Tony
