Hi everyone,
I'm planning on building a very small wood kiln approximately 2 cubic
feet inside as sort of a proof of concept to get me more familiar with
the process. I'm lucky in that I ust it as my independent study this
quarter but I was also thinking of firing it with propane to get more
knowledge out of the experiment. I have all the bricks and supplies I
need to start construction but I was mostly wondering, will a standard
14 gallon tank, like the kind attached to a bbq pit contain enough
fuel to fire such a small kiln to atleast cone 6? I've never fired a
propane kiln before and simply have no reference for how much fuel
they consume.
Thanks a bunch,
David Brown

Won't that burn down during the first firing? ;-)

It might, but the 20# tank you write about holds only 4 gallons of propane.
A 30# tank may hold 7 gallons, on a good day.
All depends on the burner(s)/pressure/load/etc.
