My ceramics teacher has a friend who put a kid's wading pool under his wheel. He sort of sat the whole wheel in it. Maybe if you put the wading pool down and then cut some peices of 1/2" ply wood(find a builders scrap as this will eventuall de-laminate and need replacing) under the feet you would be in business. Also, maybe consider buying an air purifier to run in there.

Thanks, Seth, for your idea. However, if I put a kid's wading pool in my kitchen . . . Well, come to think of it, I couldn't put a wading pool in my kitchen. It's not big enough. The only place for my wheel in my kitchen is the space I made between the frig and the cabinet next to the sink - the space I made for a potential portable dishwasher. I decided I needed the wheel more than I need the dishwasher.
I know having a wheel in the kitchen isn't the best place for it, but it will have to do over the winter. Now that I am back in wonderful Southern CA, that isn't very long. In fact, my wheel is still outside. I threw on it last weekend. I'd be out there again this weekend, but our claybud Tony F is giving a workshop at the community college where I take ceramics this weekend, so I will have the opportunity to meet a clayarter. Very cool!!!
