A batch of a tried-and-true glaze came out of the kiln pinging,
pinging....some error was made in mixing up this batch. Can it be added a
bit at a time to a properly mixed batch of same glaze?
My answer would be NO. Yes, you can do it, of course you can. But you are
running the risk of contaminating the " good" batch.
The best (I think) way to fix the bad batch is to let some of it dry out.
Completely. Weigh out 100 gms of the dry glaze, and add 5%, 10% of
flint...a lack of which is the likeliest culprit. Test. Retest to be sure.
Then weigh the rest of your glaze, add what is needed....
And...unless it is a real emergency, do try to keep ahead of your glaze
needs so that you NEVER put a newly mixed batch of glaze on your ware,
without first having tested it in a "previous" glaze fire....
