For once I won't try to be funny, but there IS light at the end of the
carpal tunnel.
First surgery: right hand, 1980, after 31 years of potting.
Second surgery: left hand, 1981, after 32 years of potting.
Third surgery : right hand, they had to redo, I forget when, in the 1990s
Fourth surgery: right hand when carpal-metacarpal trans something was
done--this is a repair on the carpal metacarpal joint, where they put in a
piece of ligament taken from your forearm (sounds bad, isn't) REDID carpal
tunnel as part of the job.
Fifth surgery: same deal, left hand 2001 or 2002
Besides potting I have used/abused my hands with other work...I even have
gotten writers cramp!
So Susan DO NOT QUIT! I still throw though not as much as once I did, I do
all sorts of other stuff.....keep that kiln, be of good courage. UNLESS THE
MD FORBIDS IT, stay in for the long haul.

Hi Lili,
Do your thumbs work differently after the carpal metacarpal fix?
Jennifer, who took 30 years (of potting/gardening/sewing/house
building/etcetc) to wear out her thumbs.
