I was trying to find a website for Fluke pyrometers so I could
recalibrate my old one. While searching (and I haven't found their
website) I discovered infared pyrometers.
Anyone have experience using one of these? It seems like a good idea
because no wear from the heat.
I need one for my test kiln and for firing raku matt glazes.

Marcia,
we got one last summer but the peak temperature it will measure is 1000
degrees C . They warn that you will burn out the sensor if you point it at a
light bulb, the sun or a hot fire. Check first to see the maximum sensor
temperature before you buy.
They work wonderfully and have a lot of uses around the studio.
We can now tell if a pot is really dry or just looks dry by checking its
temperature against a reference piece sitting next to it. When it is dry,
they match.

I saw one with a peak temperature of 2000 which would work for raku.
I hope to hear from people using them for firings.
Thanks for you ideas.
