Nils Lou's book "The Art of Firing" seems appropriate.

As an author of such a book which has sold on three continents I suggest
you have your friend contact me directly, off list, or act on his behalf if
he is uncomfortable with English. The following URL also has extensive
articles on "the art of firing".

hi edouard,
well, there is a book with the same title you are looking for:
"the art of firing" by nils lou, comes to mind immidietly,
you dont even have to look further!
is your friend writing a book on all kinds of firing techniques
(raku, pit, electric, gas...) or only the 'only' art type of
firing :) of course which is nothing else but woodfiring. (dont
give me a hard time on this, ok? i am being silly -as always)
there are two more great books i have on woodfire:
jack troy: wood-fired stoneware and porcelain,
and the other one is
minogue & sanderson: wood-fired ceramics.
cheers,
