( sent this request to clayart than I realized I hadn't asked my main squeeze clay person..?)
I have a question regarding low fire glazing. We have a old manual three ring kiln with a kiln sitter. I have low fire glazes that fire to 06-04. this year we are trying some red glazes. First question, with a glaze fire, would I just turn the kiln on to fire and fire to cone 05.? or would I build temp. up gradually? 2 hours, low 2 hours medium, than high. (I have three rings each with 12 gradations ) Generally a full kiln will in the past turn off after about 10 hours in a bisque firing. Second question, are reds best placed in the top shelf of the kiln? I have not bought any glazes in the red ranges before because we only do firings in the 06-04 range. I appreciate any help you may offer Randy in Mid Maine
