keeping the rims down on wide-rimmed bowls

Usually, when I make wide rims, they raise up as they dry and I have to rib
them back down- sometimes twice. Yesterday, I made a bunch and then realized
that I would not be able to keep watch on them as I normally do.

So... I topped them all off with a clean plastic bat. I guess the air
trapped inside supported the bat and the bat kept the rims from rising up.

This morning, I just flipped the sandwiched pots over and removed the top
bat (the one previously on the bottom) to dry the bottoms for trimming.

This idea worked great for me. I hope it works for you!

for me with wide bowls the glaze on the inside is a thicker application then the outside, and the rims tend to curl in some in the final fire. for this reason i exagerate the lip & let the final curl bring things into size & shape.

using that idea, you might put slightly more glaze on the outside of your rims to draw them out some too.

i hope your method didn't add a crack that shows up in the end!

~ but don't use a runny glaze or you'll make a mess.

see ya
