I had disappointing sales at a show last week.
I had been wondering why I agreed to do it long before the show.
It was in a well built and run retirement community in Seattle.
There were about 12 artisans 2 potters. I went having little expectations.
It wasn't a loss even with taking the ferry every day but still... I was
disappointed.
However there was another reason for me being there.
The person who convinced me to do this show has been
devastated by a recent separation and impending divorce (after 27 yrs of
marriage).
I drove, helped her set up, gave up a lot of my booth space so she could
spread out
and most importantly tried to just be there for her as each new shock wave
hit her.
What was so much more important than a crappy show was being supportive
for someone in need. I'm still doing it and will as long as the need is
apparent.
The real reason I did the show wasn't immediately apparent.
It wasn't a huge financial success but it was certainly not a loss.
She is pulling out of the shock and already looking toward the future.
