steve, nice post.
i would have included passion in my post
on art....but the word has become so
diluted.

you know:
passion for golf.
passion for children.
passion for religion.
passion for whales.
passion at being a linebacker.

everyone has passion now days. i call it verbal passion.

it is so common that i rarely use it
to describe anyone in the arts.

but, that high energy..drive for your own work
that is self directed is so important in the arts.

self direction.
wonderful ability to see and understand what is seen.
sense of design.
all good stuff.

like malcolm says:
those italians.
well, yes...those italians have been leading the world
in design for many years. it is obvious. it is a national habit.
you don't find that too common in bulgaria.
if maloclm would have spent time in the bush in australia he
would not have found that passion for design.
he would have spent his time chasing cattle.
art and regionalism. things really change fast.
