laguna's ^6 frost glaze help?

updated wed 30 nov 05

I'm getting ready to mix and test some glazes for Laguna's ^6 Frost. =
This is a new clay for me. Does anyone have some base glazes they would =
be willing to share? I've got Glazemaster (just learning to use it), =
MGC^6, and Bailey's Glazes ^6. I'm starting there, but if anyone could =
point me in the right direction I'd appreciate the help. I know the =
mantra: test, test, test. As always, you all have taught me so much.

Thanks,

You have all the right tools at your fingertips to begin a wonderful
adventure in glaze testing. You are already going in the right direction.
Make a bunch of test tiles (I usually extrude a 25 lb bag of clay and cut
the square cylinders into about 3 1/2 inch lengths). Some of the glazes I
have used from these books are: Spearmint, Licorice, Raw Sienna, Variegated
Blue, Liner White, Green breaking Ochre. You just have to pick colors you
like. Ron and John have done all the work for you. Layering is good too.
Variegated Blue over Licorice or Raw Sienna is very nice. Liner White over
Licorice is very interesting.
One thing that helps immensely is have the right firing schedule. Licorice
and Liner White are good examples of this, without the right schedule you
may experience pitting with these glazes. Many glazes love a slow fire and a
slow cool with soaking at peak and at about 1800. I don't know what kind of
kiln you have but I have a program that seems to work very well with glossy
and matt glazes. Let me know if you are interested, I will be glad to post
it.
