"rolling thunder" slab roller

updated thu 1 dec 05

I am in the market for a slab roller. Has anyone had experience with the
"Rolling Thunder" in the Axner catalog? I saw one at NCECA 2 years ago, and
thought that it looked nice. I have used Brent, Bailey, North Star in the
past...all manually driven by the wagon wheel handle. The Brent had the
system with the boards that slide under your slab, but all the others had
adjustable rollers as does this one. Any thoughts on how the "Rolling
Thunder" holds up in comparison?

Thanks,

Andrew,

I have had a "Rolling Thunder" for over a year and really like it. Easy to
operate and so far, rolls out even slabs.

I just bought one this summer and am very happy with it. I didn't buy =
their table and made my own. If you build your own table you can make =
it longer on the ends which makes it nice for rolling both directions. =
The directions Axner sent me are less than clear! But I saved a bundle =
in shipping. I think compared to the Bailey it is harder to roll large =
amounts of clay, but like the Bailey has rollers top and bottom, good =
for compression on both sides of the slab. The height adjustment is =
done on one side - which the northstar doesn't have - and the Brent only =
has a roller on one side and you have to fuss around with shims to =
adjust the height. =20

I think the Axner is a really good deal. deb sether

We have one we have been using for about a year or so and like it very much.
Not sure how it compares as it is the only one we have ever used. Not much
to it, we did get it with the large rollers. We have had no problems making
the largest slabs we can handle.
