problem with rio wash

This is probably a stupid question/problem, but I used casting slip (white
cone 04)for the first time and made some of my goddess beads on pedastals,
about an inch tall, anyway, I always use a RIO wash on my beads because it
gives them a beautiful old world look and look like artifacts. Well, much
to my horror when I pulled them out of a cone 06 firing, slip is cone 04,
the RIO wash came right off and got all over my hands. I used straight
RIO, no additives. This has never happened to me before! It is also
chipping off all over the place. I fired them again at cone 04 thinking
the firing was not high enough. Does this mean the casting slip is non
porous and the RIO is sitting on top of the clay? I usually use a cone 6
stoneware, white, and have never had any problems.
Is there any way to save them or should I just go back to my stoneware?
I had planned to put my little goddesses on Xmas cards, now that is a
wash.
I am so disappointed with my results.
Any advice would be most appreciated!

Sincerely, Janna

balmy 20 degrees Farenheit.

Janna, you will need to add some flux to your RIO wash for lo-fire temps. Or
if you have a brownish lo-fire glaze on hand, brush that on the beads and
wipe most of it off. Just an idea.
