When I spoke with Stephen Lewicki at L&L a while back about purchasing a new
electric kiln for primarily bisque firings, but including other types of
firings, we discussed placement of the kiln in an outside building with no
temperature control. He agreed that there are issues with programmable
controllers in very cold and hot environments. We decided that using a
manual kiln in this situation would offer better service.

If you're placing you kiln in a non-temperature controlled environment, I'd
suggest a very frank conversation with the kiln/controller manufacturer.

In the situation of this gas fired kiln in an unheated environment, you
could probably place a small space heater near the controller until the
space heats up from the firing.

We do have a L&L in a climate controlled room that we use for crystalline
firings. More than 40 firings so far and the firing time has not strayed for
more than 10 minutes. FYI - heavy duty elements are installed in this kiln.
After the new year, I plan on ordering another after the new year.
