Does anyone know of a good Cone 5-6 white? I have the "Mastering Cone 6
Glazes" and use most of the glazes in there successfully. There is a
majolica base that I haven't tried. And, maybe that would work. Any ideas?

Liner White from MC6Gs is great (I believe it is the majolica base). Watch
for pinholing. Seems to like a slow fire and slow cool. Use the MC6Gs'
firing schedule. Often pinholes will appear where one has trimmed. Just
smooth over the clay with a rib after trimming an area.

Try this semi-matte white, also a maiolica. I fired gas, but believe i tested in electric before it died. (sigh). Not bright white, softer, but not creamy white either.

I don't know where it originally came from, but I got it from my friend Ginny!
I like it. It comes out milky on reddish clays, a soft satin white on white clay and porcelain. I esp. like it on porcelain.
Good luck! Marianne
Good luck.

Hi Mary,
Just add 5% tin oxide to Glossy Base 1. I call it White Satin. It is
a smooth semiglossy.

These are the white glazes (cone 6 oxidation) I have (unfortunately most of
my glazes use gerstley and I have not had the time to reformulate and test
them). I will be using the MC6 glaze which has been adjusted to white on
their site http://www.masteringglazes.com/Pages/Updateframe.html . Ed's
white is fussy about thickness (it easily will crack and fall off if too
thick). Paul's White is nice and easy to work with. For me MC6 is not as
opaque as I would like on the clay I use.

The first one could use some more silica to lower the expansion a bit and
make it more durable - I would recommend a line blend adding 10% more
silica.
The second glaze is way oversupplied with alumina - it will not be properly
melted and would not be good as a liner glaze.
