glazes

When I sent in the Tony Yeh glazes, one was "iron red ", and one =
"buckwheat " as in CM. So when someone says I sent in a BLACK glaze =
that ain't so. It does not matter except for this. There are bunches =
of identical glazes marching round under different names...let's not add =
another. By the way: Yeh says the iron red works in reduction too,and =
he has a few more glazes that make it very worthwhile to go to the PL =
and look up CM 3/95.

I have used iron chromate for tin chrome pinks. Monona Rossol warns =
against potassium chromate--no idea if it is worse than plain chrome, or =
iron chromate--but check it out before you use. I seem to remember =
being warned against it because it does something else dangerous =
too--besides the skin damage, lung damage, poison bit...

Plenty of c 6 glazes work wonderfully at c. 6R, I think it WAS CM who =
had an article about that quite a while ago...a woman who fired a =
woodburner by herself, and decided it had to be c.6--which is what I did =
in my Obasanogama.

C. 6 is sneaky and perfidious. It is challenging and seductive. You =
can get marvelous results, really nice pots, but it all is an =
adventure--of testing, of retesting, layering, spraying, and so on. You =
cannot manipulate the fire and flame. =20
Yes, with these new digital kilns you can control heating and =
cooling much better....but still it is not the fun and abandon of fuel =
burning.

A to great white glazes. I have on my desk right now a chart of 15 =
lovely c 6 electric fired white glazes...all containing zinc. I have =
lists of other lovely white glazes all over my notebooks. In my opinion =
the nicest white glazes are high magnesium ones with tin and or rutile =
and or titanium added....They can be manipulated to exactly what you =
want by small adjustments. ("Did I hear her say 'do straight line =
blends'?" "Of course. That's what she ALWAYS says, the silly old =
goose!") =20

IF MEL will permit it--please, dear Rav, reply--I will post those 15 =
recipes on Clayart....I have every hope that one day Clayart will be THE =
repository of glaze recipes....
