nceca travel planning question

Hi Everyone!

I am currently planning my travel for NCECA - my first time going to
one, so I am excited! SWA has some good priced flights until 12/12, so
I need to get this figured out this weekend. I am already planning to
fly in on the 7th and I see the conference actually ends just after 1PM
on Saturday the 11th.

My question is what is there going on after the conference ends on
Saturday? Do people hang out and visit and leave on Sunday or do people
tend to pack up and leave on Saturday? I am just trying to figure out
when to book my departure and how long we are going to have our hotel
room, etc. I figure I'd better get to this now and not wait.

I can't wait!!

You could do some bus tours on Sat. afternoon because there is no way
to see it all on Wed.

Good point! There are four separate bus tours operating this year.
probably take two days of 'touring' to see it all. My "Migrations of
the Heart" show will be on the Sacagawea Route.

Hi, Laurie,
It's a bit of both. Some people bail early--long trips back,
commitments, etc. Some stay until Sunday. It depends. I will say
though, at one NCECA I nearly didn't make my plane due to the mob of
people all trying to get out of the hotel and to the airport. And I
thought I had allowed plenty of time; just didn't count on the number
of people/ limited transportation.

The airport if a few miles north of the convention center in
Portland. I don't know about the number of taxies or the bus and
airporter situation, but I would advise to err on the long side. Give
yourself lots of time to get there, then add more. heh

If you're driving from Sacramento, no prob. Just point your car south.

On the whole, though, Saturday and Sundays are major bail outs, not a
lot of lingering.

See ya at the CLAYART room!
Cheers,
Jeanette

Dear Jeanette and Laurie;

Portland is ahead of the curve when it comes to getting to the airport.
The MAX Lightrail system will take you from the Conference Center
neighborhood right to the airport where you disembark under cover and
are in the terminal. Same deal getting into town from the airport. Even
with luggage it is pretty easy. When I fly out of Portland, I stay
overnight with friends in Hillsboro and get on the MAX there and am at
the terminal in an hour and change with NO worry about pileups on the
freeway that would cause me to miss a flight.

Cheers, Hank

Thanks, Hank!
I'd heard the lightrail was pretty easy in and out of the convention
center area so that's good to know! The room is reserved through
Saturday night so I can leave Sunday okay. Sunday the only sale-priced
flight leaves at 8:55 AM. The last flight out Sat is at 4:35 PM - not
enough time to have a farewell dinner or anything! So I am leaning
towards staying Saturday night for sure!

Thank you Everyone for the NCECA travel information!
I just booked my flights so I guess I am now officially official!
