Thanks to everyone who replied to my post =E2=80=9Cglazes with depth.=E2=80=
=9D I was=20
looking for recipes for glazes that break and change color over texture and=20=
edges=20
and glazes that have visual depth from crystalization. Numerous people=20
suggested glaze combinations that sound interesting. =20

I would appreciate it if others could share their favorite cone 6 glaze=20
combinations. I will kick this off with a glaze combo that was popular at=20=
the=20
Hyde Park Studio in Tampa, Florida, a few years ago. I have not used this=20=
combo=20
for years, so I apologize for the vague discription.

Judy Rohrbaugh: please note the illmenite in the first recipe.

Cone 6 Glaze combo: Metallic green over Asako white (or maybe it is white=20
over green)

ASAKO WHITE
Cone 6 oxidation

Silica 56
Whiting 188
Soda feldspar 516
Kaolin 154
Zinc oxide 86
Rutile 40

ADD:
Illmenite (powered) 30 (add this after sieving glaze)

Comments: as I recall, this is a semimatt off white that has some=20
speckling. Sometimes it has orange/tan areas of color.

METALLIC GREEN
Cone 6 oxidation

Ball clay 60
Dolomite 180
Gertsey borate 220
Spodumene 360
Tin oxide 80
Zircopax 100
Copper carbonate 60

Comments: as I recall, this glaze is very =E2=80=9Ccrystalline=E2=80=9D an=
d semimatt.

In combination with Asako white it is runny, but gives a nice blending of=20
green and white colors.

I hope this inspires others to share their favorite cone 6 glaze combos.

The Asako white is short of silica so it will not be a durable glaze and
will probably craze.

The Metalic green is way short of silica so it will leach copper into food
- change the taste of orange juice for instance - and change colour with
some types of use - and the expansion is low so it may be a shivering or
dunting problem with some clay bodies - that would be esy to fix by
replacing some of the spod with spar.
