The following glaze is a very runny and glossy glaze at cone 11. It looks
similar to the glaze bill campbell uses (although i started using it as an
apprentice before i knew who he was) and it is basically a very over fired
glaze. It does tend to blister at times and some of the research i have
done has made me think that it would be more consistent if frits were used.
I have read that whiting and dolomite put out a lot of gasses and i know
gerstley tends to be problematic as well. Can anyone suggest the proper
frit to use if i want to keep the same silica/alumina ratio? I plan to get
Insight soon but at the moment don't have the software to reformulate it.
thanks,
Paul

POTASH FELDSPAR 20.37
WHITING 18.52
DOLOMITE 11.11
FLINT 29.63
GERSTLEY BORATE 9.26
BENTONITE 2.00
KENTUCKY BALL CLAY (OM4) 7.41

Hi, Paul. Without spending a whole lot of time tweaking this recipe, try:

Custer 27.23
frit 3134 14.55
wollastonite 36.55
talc 10.44
ball clay 8.76
bentonite 2.48

the Si:Al ratio is a little higher (12.18 as opposed to 10.68) but the
chemistry is pretty close, and it's all materials with little or no LOI.
Good luck, Paul

Hi Paul,

I was about to reformulate this with 3134 but see the total is only 98.3 -
have I got all the materials? - Also - what spar are you using?

I am using g200 feldspar and yes, all the materials are there. Not sure why
it does not add up to 100 but that is that way i have always used it.
thanks,
Paul
