Showing It All: A Tom Coleman Workshop
Saturday - Sunday, February 18-19, 10am - 4pm
In this 2-day demonstration workshop, Tom Coleman will share his wealth =
of
knowledge from 38 years of experience as a clay artist. On the first =
day,
he will show slides of past and present work and give a brief history of =
his
involvement with porcelain as a medium. He will then demonstrate the
throwing and altering of several different functional forms. There will =
also
be ongoing discussion and demonstration of different decorating =
techniques.
On the second day, Tom will focus on assembling the pieces produced the =
day
before and will discuss various ways of formulating porcelain clay =
bodies
and slips. Tom will also talk about his general philosophy on working =
as a
clay artist and how to approach marketing your work, including how to =
take
good professional photographs of your work for consideration in =
publications
and entry into fairs and shows. Tom Coleman currently works and lives =
in
Henderson, NV with his wife Elaine Coleman. He has been a studio potter =
for
38 years and has exhibited his work extensively and given lectures and
workshops around the world. His work is included in over twenty-two
publications, including "500 Cups," "Making Marks," and "Contemporary =
Studio
Porcelain." His work is also in a number of public collections, =
including
San Angelo Museum of Art(TX), The Smithsonian Institute (DC), Sapporo =
Sister
City Collection (Japan) and Contemporary Crafts Gallery (OR).=20
