My shimpo had the same problems when spinning that several of
you described. I suffered with it way too long...... horrible pots....
such a drag on the wheel..... then it would be normal speed for a
period.... then drag...... then speed up. Insane that I kept trying
to make it work. I don't know what I was thinking.
Anyway a friend, electrical engineer, who knows nothing about pottery
but much about how things work...... checked the motor, brushes,
power source etc and determined that they were all as it appeared they
should be. Gary believed that it must be the electronic gadgets in the
Black Box of the Shimpo. We called Shimpo and Gary explained his
thinking..... Shimpo agreed..... we ordered the electronics =
components...
and G. installed them this week. =20
I'm happy to report that my pots are looking like my pots again and the
wheel is smooth and quiet once more. Hooray. The electronics did cost
over $250, but what else could one do? =20

In the Mojave happy to be once again jazzed about pottery .... G. fixed
the slabroller also! And moved the Bailey hydraulic extruder closer to
the air-compressor..... new garage/studio doors are installed with a row
of windows across the tops of each letting in nice light. 2006 appears
promising for the Roadrunner Studio.
