Hi--

I'm working on my senior thesis and I'm having some issues with glaze fit a=
nd surface. I'm using Miller 65 white stoneware. I make functional pots by =
pinching and then I use colored slips and sgraffito for additional surface.=
All I need as far as glazes go is a good, reliable, no-craze clear. I thin=
k I need a softer surface, so a satin or a satin matt is what I'm after. I =
would love any input on recipes that are out there, especially if you have =
experience with the glaze on a similar clay body to mine. Thanks a bunch.

Hey Liz,

Satin matt clear is a tricky one. I`m still testing for a reliable one.
You could go here, scroll down to
glazes, and see what you can find.

Good Luck!

Elizabeth:

I am not familiar with your clay, but on most C6 "porcelain" type stoneware
bodies and Laguna C5 B Mix, Tony Hansen's clear matte has worked very well
for me. I've used it (and slight variations) for years. I don't have the
formula on hand, as I'm away from the studio - check the Clayart archives
or look on DigitalFire.com. It tends to be less clear (but more matte) if
slow cooled.

However, this glaze crazes like mad on the coarser, more open type of
stoneware bodies that I use.
