i have been using peggys spooze to fix cracks and as my slip joiner for =
a while now and it works wonderful. however i found out a while ago that=
that stuff seems to work a bit better if i boil it for a few minutes af=
ter making it. i discovered this as i was trying to boil off some water =
to give me a thicker slip, started working with it and it worked alot be=
tter. less cracks, faster working...the whole works. i am not sure at al=
l why this is or anything...havent really cared to find out why...it jus=
t seems better and for now i will leave it at that. maybe someone else w=
ill know why.
but anyways. here is the recipe for peggys spooze if anyone would like t=
o try it. its wonderful.
1/3 parts dry clay powdered....any body...preferably the one you are usi=
ng with no grog
1/3 parts heavy karo syrup
1/3 parts white distilled vinegar 5% acidity
and a drop of hydrogen peroxide to keep it from spoiling...it will bubb=
le for a few minutes and then settle down. if you dont add that the suga=
r goes bad and smells aweful in about a day.
and then i boil mine at a high rolling boil for about 5-8 minutes...let =
it cool...and put it in a container.

Interesting,
This is pretty much similar to my method I posted using pancake syrup/tp but
without the vinegar. I don't add any "Fluid" except the strup, but, was
interested in the hydrogen peroxide comment! For years I used a lot of
vinegar in my slab building slip containers ( several diff. clays, many
containers, sat a long time ) but found after a while they began to mold
badly, and if got bad enough I could actually see a fine black line in seems
AFTER firing from the mold in slip!! This really started suprising me! I
quit adding the vinegr andonly mix with water now. I wonder if the HP would
solve those probs...sounds like it:>)
