ok i need help..and its driving me nuts. =
i have recently bought a few chemicals for low fire pit/saggar/barrel wo=
rk. =
copper carb
red iron oxide
yellow iron oxide
black iron oxide
cobalt carb
rutile
my problem is that the colors are not showing up or are showing very lig=
htly and can almost be completely rubbed off with a green scratcher and =
water.
ive tried doing washes, ive tried applying do greenware, ive tried firin=
g from everything from 1100 F to 1833 F and they are light an not sticki=
ng to the pots at lower temperatures and completely burn off at anything=
above about 1500. =
i dont have these problems if i go with straight copper mesh or iron rus=
t that ive ground down. i dont get it. why am i not getting colorants wi=
th these powdered forms specifically made for making colors??? shouldnt =
they still produce oxides and colors in low fire. =
im just at a loss. not sure whats the matter. driving me up a wall. by a=
ll rational it should be working fine....instead the colors never really=
seem to reach the pot....
grrrr.
