the description of those wonderful glazes that
don't quite belong in shine or matt are hard to
describe sometimes.
it is an old story in describing any glaze with words.
touch and feel are still the most important.
we have to pick up pots...feel them.
just like hank described the other day...teabowls.
but the feel of natural stones from a river, fresh
stick of butter...a beautiful
leather coat.
that in /between visual affect is what many old
time potters love.
it does not scream at you. and it does not
feel like old wool carpet.
stones
butter
leather
skin.
it was like the kid at nceca who saw some of my pots.
`hey man, you make old time glazes.`
`yes, i do, and i really love them, and they did not come
from a jar marked amaco, they come from the history of clay.`
