bone on frost vs b-mix5 - was: re: clayart flickr instructions

As I wrote previously, I have two images that may be of interest to
a portion of the group. I uploaded them to the communal flickr
account. (Taylor provided the instructions, and I'm including them in
this mail too.)

The images compare two Laguna clay bodies. The first is Frost and the
second B-Mix 5.

There are two main reasons that I feel that these images may be of
interest. First, there has recently been discussion of Halyocite and
Frost / Southern Ice. Second, I in the past have mentioned very long
soaks at top temperature.

The two bowls are glazed with the cone 6 Roy & Hesselberth "Bone".

They are both also fired to cone 6 down and then held at top
temperature for one hour, reaching cone 7. I have found some
blistering problems of the bodies, so I'm going to stop doing these
extreme soaks, even though the affect on the glazes are outstanding.

You can see the blistering in the B-Mix pot, but not in the Frost
pot. The B-Mix pot also warped a little, but I don't care that much
about that.

Finally, the brown decoration is from the black stain published in the
CM article "a wood-fired look in an electric kiln" by Richard Busch.

I think Frost is amazing stuff. I also think that black stain is
amazing. Be careful with the nasty stuff ... but if you are careful, I
don't think it's an issue.

Hopefully someone will find some interest from these two images. I
hope the communal flickr account see's more use too. And, I think
Taylor is correct, we should have a more secure way of communicating
the email address that is used for it.

Regards,

Mark.
