I hosted a workshop with Brian in my studio. There are two main aspects to
his workshops. The first is the use of glaze materials in 1:1 or 1:2 ratios
by volume which results in the creation of many new glazes/glaze
possibilities. Equally wonderful was the design portion in which Brian
shares how he comes up with his designs. This is also a participatory part
of the workshop and is important for those who would like to learn more
about design. Many come to pottery without an art/design background and
this workshop can open the door to that dimension. He will give you the
techniques to explore and find things in your environment and then translate
them into images you can work with. People still tell me how much they
enjoyed the workshop and how much they enjoyed him. He is a delightful
person whose personality and rebel spirit alone could make the workshop
worthwhile.

The Clayworkers' Guild of Illinois has asked me to submit a notice about our
upcoming hands-on/demo-workshop with New Zealand Artist Brian Gartside (in
conjunction with Great Lakes Clay & Supply and McHenry County College in
Crystal Lake, Illinois). Brian will be presenting at NCECA this year in
Portland, so he is also scheduling some workshops while here in the States
and we are fortunate to be one of those destinations.

It is a two-day event. Friday & Saturday March 24th & 25th, 2006 from 9am
CDT - 4pm CDT (both days) in the Pottery Rooms at McHenry County College in
Crystal Lake, IL. The cost is: $65.00 (USD) for both days for members, or
$100.00 (USD) for non-members--Lunch not included.
