While at NCECA, please watch the message board for a meeting to initiate a scholarship fund. Anyone interested in it, please attend and contribute ideas.
Anyone who wants to be part of it beforehand, get some ideas going, talk about pros and cons, please email me privately.
Off the top of my head:
1. Work through ACERS or ?? to establish fund as 501c3 entity, so that, especially businesses, have increased incentive to donate.
2. During NCECA and months that follow, establish guidelines for nominating and selecting scholarship recipients.
Depending upon the response, we could have more than one level of support. If we could fund airfare for just one deserving person each year, I'm thinking that we could explore housing options, such as local potters who might open their homes or other NCECA attendees who might donate a bed in their hotel room.
3. This kind of thing might be just the ticket for a serious ceramics student to get started or to get a struggling potter connected. This is one way for all of us to assist the next generation of potters.
4. Be prepared to help. The hard part will be designing the decision-making process.
I'm psyched!
My god, someone stop me!!!!
