Course Description:

This hands-on workshop will give you the opportunity
to become familiar with the complete process of salt
firing - from glazing and preparing pieces for the
firing to salting the kiln. No previous experience is
necessary; both novice and experienced participants
are welcome. Anyone who would like to participate in
the salting of the kiln - the most exciting part of
the firing - is required to have his/her own
chlorine/acid gas respirator (approximately $40 from
Lowes). =20

For the first class, students should bring bisqued
pieces made from a cone 10 clay body that are ready to
be glazed. Cone 10 glazes for the salt kiln will be
provided. The first class will consist of a brief
overview of the salt firing process and an orientation
to the CCCC glazes and kiln, with time available for
glazing work. Friday evening will be devoted to
glazing and kiln preparation. We will load the kiln
on Saturday and fire it on Sunday. The following
Thursday, we will unload the kiln and clean up the
kiln and our pieces. =20
