Has anyone tried using the commercial paper mache mix (just add water) to =
make paper clay with? It appears to be mostly very fine paper material, =
but it must contain some other ingredient(s). The label provides no info.

I have used paper mache in an experimental process with
kids and clay to save time. Used it 2 ways...one is 1 part
mache to 2 parts cone 6 commercial slip. (Seeleys) (volume)
This was used as a matter of expediency for an art project
that involved balloons.

The other is 1 part mache to 2 parts dry clay (pretty well
any stoneware or porcelain dry will work. )
I just added water til it felt like good dipping consistency
and stayed with the gauze.

When mixed gauze can be dipped in it like normal
mache and wrapped around ballons or other types of
objects that won't cause it to shrink and crack.

Also can be laid inside plaster molds and left covered to dry.

Fire and glaze according to clay specs.

I am not sure what the chemical compound in mache is
but i'd steer clear of the kiln fumes.
Kind of smelled like badly burnt biscuits for a while when I fired it.

We had some interesting results...fun things.

Haven't really done it since.
