best floating blue and frit 3278

The description of the "Best Floating Blue" that has been going around =
sounded interesting. However, my supplier told me that Ferro =
discontinuted Frit 3278 and they can no longer get it.
Has anyone else heard this? Is there a substitute?

You could see if pemco's p830 which is the same as 3278 is still being
sold. Other wise, use one of the other six versions on clayart. Gary

Standard Ceramics (http://www.standardceramic.com/materials.html ) has 3278
listed as one of their available frits. I have not called to confirm.

Nick,

I got some from Laguna a couple of weeks ago. I made up a small
batch of the "Best Floating Blue" but it didn't work too well for me
and I havn't had time to try to figure out why yet. I fired in a
small test kiln that cools very rapidly, maybe that was the problem
or perhaps I messed up the preparation. I'm planning to try and sort
it out next week.

Hi Nick,

Looks like Fusion frit 60 is a very close match to 3278 - has anyone
contacted Ferro to find out if that is true about 3278?

If it is - do they make a comparable frit that they are willing to give the
analysis for?

The main thing about that frit is lower CaO than 3134 - the ampont of boron
is about the same and neither has any alumina. So it is useful when 3134
has too much CaO.

For those still looking for Frit 3278:

A couple of weeks ago I ordered some from my regular supplier,
Greenbarn in Vancouver. They didn't have it but said they'd order it
and yesterday I got a 5# bag in the mail. The bag has a Laguna
sticker on it.
