The Greater Lansing Potters' Guild finally decided to accept credit cards after many many years of debate. It works wonderfully! We are a 501c3....we joined the Michigan Retailers Association which, among other services, provides credit card services for its' members.
We only need the cards 6 days a year.
We collect sales tax at the point of purchase; Guild members receive a check for the money their pots bring in, minus a 20% Guild commission. The amount due each potter is determined by those pesky string tags. Archaic, cumbersome and all that...but it still works!
Our credit card sales now surpass checks and cash. This is a service for our customers, and they seem to prefer it to other forms of payment!
The service charge we pay is included in our overall sale expenses (table rentals, postage etc)
questions?? please ask..I'll try my best to answer!
