remember, when you fire any clay body....
the amount of reduction has great influence.
what makes a body perfect may differ
a great deal from potter to potter.
gas, wood, salt, electric..they are all very
different...very.
what one potter thinks is heavy reduction, another
potter will think is whimpy..
how a clay responds to reduction or
oxidize firing is very important.
test, and test some more. and without question,
think of bisque firing, and how does that affect your
final firing.
i think in most cases we get better
ready made clay than most can expect.
think of the golden`olden days`.
dig your own,
pug your own, wedge your own.
pick out sticks and rocks. have a donkey running
your clay mixing machine.
i really think we are very lucky to
have great vendors that will work with
us. help us at every turn.
it is up to us to learn what we have and how to
use it. or, pay the price and have your own clay
body custom made. if that is what you want.
de/aired, perfect right from the bag. hell, you may
want to hire someone to make the pots too.
a modern, concept pottery. you can just sit in
a chair, watch the entire process.
