Nancy, Marjons of Phoenix and Tuscon Arizona carry both ardvark and laguna
clays. I've also purchased ardvark in Denton, Tx. or was it Austin? (Clay
road trip) New Mexico seems a likely
Place to also have an ardvark supplier. Marjon's catalogue contains
shrinkage/absorbtion loss/ignition etc.... data on laguna clays and their
techs have always been very helpful. As has Laguna Clay CO. I have had both
phone and e-mail exchanges and never got a sense from them of the negativity
you describe. Jon Pascini at Laguna reads this list and responds to
questions pertaining to the clays and materials they use and sell. Clay
people can be a demandingly fickle pissy bunch if we don't get treated well.
Suppliers, many who also started out as potters and clay people, or have
clay people on staff, know this and generally work to keep us happy. Most
in my experience are just genuine nice folks to begin with.
In my experience: B-mix ^10 will handle ^11hard down, and a bowl has a
healthy ringing tone at ^8. Amador which I use for red ware and sculpture,
and to blend up to make "dirty B-Mix" Will handle a hard ^10 but will start
to bloat by ^11. dense and durable at ^5/6 for sculpture. WSO ^10 will
leak at ^6 and is still iffy at ^9 but is great for big stuff including big
raku. Hawaiian Red matures as it's rated at ^ 5.
