wheel wobble and stutter

I'm a new potter who was recently lucky enough to inherit an old wheel.
It looks like a Brent but has no name or markings of any kind on it so I
don't really know. The trouble is the head has a pretty bad wobble, also
the power sort of stutters on and off. I'm trying to fix it myself and
since i don't really know anything about pottery wheels i could use a
little guidance on what are probably some pretty basic things.
First, how do you get the head off? I took out every srew i could find
and nothing would budge. Is there a trick or maybe something i missed, or
could it just be stuck because of age and need some more WD40 and elbow
grease?
I could also use an explaination of the fuse knob. What is it for? How
do you use it? Mine is basicaly stuck, it moves a little but not much.
I've looked inside the black box and found a burnt wire which i plan to
fix I'm just wondering if the funky knob could have something to do with
things frying in the first place.
I'm about a two hour drive from the nearest place I could take it to be
fixed and am currently without a car so that option is no good and I want
so much to be able to throw at home. The weekly workshop I"m taking is
just not enough time at the wheel.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There should be a set screw that holds the wheel head to the shaft. I =
have
also found that when I email the Brent technician, he emails back very
quickly or calls. Very helpful folks
