a pc with a cd reader for the clayart room?

updated mon 27 feb 06

Russel Fouts on sun 19 feb 06

Would anyone be willing to arrange a PC (Desktop) for the Clayart room?

I have a few reasons for asking this:

1. - Richard Aerni has been kind enough to send me his promotional CD
so that we can look at it in the Clayart room. It looks really good
and people should see it to get some ideas about promoting their
work. My idea is to put it on permanent loop so it can be viewed at
any time. Barring that, I'll just put an icon on the desktop that
people can use to run it.

2. Wayne send me a copy of the downloaded Taxile Doat book. I'll put
it on a CD and bring it to NCECA so people can copy it. I also think
there will be some other people bringing it to make copies. For this,
we'd need a CD Burner in the PC.

3. It might really be cool (and this may be just a pipe dream) to
have someone bring an LCD projector that we could connect to the PC.
Then if people brought digital images of their pots on CD we could
could show them at the Photography Workshop if we had time.

I'm sure we'd find other uses for it as well.

I know that there will be a number of people who will have laptops in
the Clayart room and if they want to make those available from time
to time, that would be very generous. However, I'd like to have a
dedicated resource so as not to tie up the personal PCs too much. And
I wouldn't recommend any one leaving their laptop in the Clayart room.

So, I'm once again throwing myself upon the kindness of my Clayart friends.

Don't bother yourself making a copy of the Doat book.
I have already made half a dozen copies, and will be bringing them to =

Hey Russel,

I have an old desktop (not that old, Windows 2000) that can be kept in the
ClayArt room. I will need a ClayArter in the Portland area who is going to
NCECA to receive it. I will ship the CPU from Tucson; but, I can't ship a
monitor. Can anyone else provide a monitor?

This thing will have a CD reader; and, I'll ship the keyboard and mouse.
It's an extra, so if it mysteriously grows legs, I won't be upset. I also
have a portable CD burner that I can attach via the USB port. That will
have to stay with me, but have no problem burning while I'm in the ClayArt
room; or later, during the conference, or after.

If a monitor can be found, we're set. Start a "sign-up" list for "burning".
I'll donate the shipping of the CPU and peripherals if someone else can
provide the blank CD's and CD jackets.

Thanks, Wayne and Ron now we're cooking!

Also if anyone else has a CD slide show that they'd like to run on
the PC, bring it along.

Just to recap for everyone, the original idea was to have a desktop
PC in the clayart room:

- To show a copy of Richard Aerni's promotional slide show that he
was kind enough to donate to Clayart as an example of something that
can be done with your digital images

- to make copies of the Taxile Doat book for those who want one.

- and maybe if we got REALLY lucky someone would bring an lcd
projector that we could attach to the pc to show digital "slides".
But that might be wishing for too much. ;-)

Thanks again guys!

Russel

I am trying to contact (as we speak) a company that rents digital =

in the Portland area. if the price is not unreasonable, we will have a =
big
screen (ok, a piece of wall) on which to watch, and not a little =
monitor.
I'll keep everyone posted.

Thanks to Wayne Seidl, Ron Hughes and Ilene Mahler we're getting a=20
desktop PC ready for the Cayart room.

Ron is shipping the pc from Tuscon and since a screen is something=20
really heavy to ship, he's hoping that some local Portland Clayarter=20
will provide a screen.

Also if anyone else has a CD slide show that they'd like to run on=20
the PC, bring it along.

Wayne is bringing the Taxile Doat book on CD and will be willing to=20
make copies of it for people.

Ilene is bringing some blank CDs.

I'm bring some viewers, a "Try and Buy" version of Photoshop Elements=20
(downloadable from Adobe's site) that we can install on the PC in=20
case we need them and another idea for a CD presentation that one=20
could easily do.
