Researching Vent-A-Kiln overhead hood and chimney for cone 10 downdraft gas
kiln, firing to cone 10. Don't want to burn my new building down or
asphyxiate myself during reduction-do these vent systems really work? Many

I got an estimate for a vent system from Vent-a-kiln a few years ago for
setting up my Olympic updraft12cu. ft. gas kiln. It was REEEEAAALLLYYYY
expensive. I didn't even consider it. I saved THOUSANDS by using SELKIRK
piping and having a local shop build the cone ans room flange. I used the
Selkirk pipes and stack. It took some figuring, butcame out great. I can
send you pics if you like.
Also, the pipes figured into the price by Ventakiln were the absolute most
costly and double insulated, which I found are NOT needed. I'd start by
contacting Selkirk.
I was glad I shopped and did the legwork myself. It was fairly easy to find
a local shop to build the rest needed from galvinized stock.
