A Renaissance of Clay and Materials

Workshop with Alfredo Ratinoff

6 week class held on Thursdays Starting April 6 - May 11, 2006=20

Fee: $220.00=20

This comprehensive workshop will cover medieval techniques and styles
for ceramic artist interested in achieving various finishes beyond
traditional glaze techniques. Students will learn how to paint on
fresco in a very simple process, creating a design and transferring it
onto fresh lime plaster. Alfredo will teach and help students apply a
variety of techniques to create relief and surface finishes to further
enhance their frescos. Each participant will be provided an already
bisque -fired clay slab for them to emboss on plaster, create their
fresco painting and add final guilding. Prerequisite: knowledge of clay
techniques, painting or printing. Drawing knowledge is not required but

Alfredo Ratinoff was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He studied at the
National School of Ceramics in Buenos Aires, and then in Madrid,
Barcelona, and Florence. He specializes in large murals and has been
commissioned extensively throughout the U.S. and by major corporations.
He has done many tile /mosaic workshops throughout the DC Metropolitan
area and has recently been featured in several articles in the
Washington Post. He currently works from his studio in Hyattsville, Md.
