With Nils' book, "The Art of Firing", I was able to finally accomplish getting a fantastic reduction in a teeny tiny seven cubic foot Olympic gas kiln. Even too, from the first shelf to the third shelf. I had tons of other help from lots of people; but because of his firing suggestions, BINGO!
Thank you so much Nils Lou and everyone who writes such worthy books.
Mel's, "A Potter, A Life, A Lifetime", is significant predominately for design of forms (cross section halves, ergonomics), production techniques, potters' perspectives and expectations .
John Britt's, "The Book of High Fire Glazes", makes it a ready reference for all the formulas. Most of the glazes I use are in that book. Next to do: glaze tests for my kiln. I look forward to testing now that I can get even reductions top to bottom, inside and out on my pots.
Dale Ochoy's posts and e-mails helped me A LOT in shelving configurations for my Olympic as he has one, but bigger. Reading all the Clayart posts on thermocouple problems...I'd be lost without them.
It's such a tremendous feeling of relief after being stuck on one side of a precipice yearning to be on the other side. And I joined the other side, just barely standing on its edge, with a land mass yet to explore.
As I just unloaded the kiln, I'll take pics soon and post them on my website page.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you EVERYONE!
