cone 6 nightmare

R & J have to be quiverin in their untwistable nickers.

If just the people on Clayart who are talkin about it
are all making all of their pots waterfall brown....
just think of all the silent potters toiling away going
by the book all headed in the same direction.

I think there is going to be a conflagration of pots
all across the land that look just alike.

It will be 1967 all over again.

At least waterfall brown will be beautiful to look at instead
of the bean pot brown of days past.

Be careful what you wish for...

I am only half-jesting. What are the implications of
the very large number of beginning potters all going by
the same book? And the book being written well enough
for them to "get it"? and I can only imagine the poorly
executed pots with that beautiful glaze...and what's the
difference between buying it and copying a recipe by rote?

At least in the past, books were so poorly written that any
potter trying to copy the recipes included were bound to come
up with something original just due to user error.

so .... just be sure you are not making Stepford Pots.

E

R & J, you are both great. Just look at the trouble your hard
work hath wrought...

Hmmm. All those pots with one glaze. That would be interesting.

Sort of like a whole bunch of individual architectural styles of homes
built by independent builders/contractors, yet all painted the same color.

Hard to imagine, but interesting concept!

No fear, because the people who just copy out the recipe won't get
"Waterfall Brown" because they will fire it any old way, or stick it in the
kiln at the art center that has to fire and be done in 8 hours before the
manager goes home. Not for nothing do the authors say that WB is the
"final exam"...

It can't be any worse than thousands of beginning potters all using
F****ing Blue.... At least the WB won't sell so easily, being brown and
all....

Ha Chris, I've had two seperate people ask me if I make brown pots... and
I haven't really even sold any pots yet, just to family! Is brown coming
back into style or what. Have to admit WB is beautiful... even tho I'm
not much of a brown person.
