I have been working with two glazes I found in CM May 1999, The had an
article on the subject. I had pretty good results with these glazes, and did
get red, but know I have lost my supply of frit for these recipes! My local
supplier can't get general colors frits anymore, becasue they sold off
theirr frit division to another comany which has discontinued the line. So
I'm in hte process of some triaxials to find an equivalent. If any of you
have any ideas please let me know.

Copper red 10
(Cone 6)

Frit 114 34%
Frit 154 6%
Frit 156 4%
gersley borate 5%
flint 51%

Add color mixture 3.3%

copper red 9
(cone 6)
gersley borate 6%
custer spar 22%
Frit 146 26%
flint 46%

Add color mixture 3.1%

Color mixture
copper carb 5%
tin oxide 50%
custer spar 39.4%
Ultrafine silicon carbide 5.6%

I just lost my kiln due to element burnout, when I heard you can use most
cone 10 recipes at cone six, by substituting the frit with neph syn, I was
going to try this with tom colemans glaze base, and add silicon carbide, and
do a couple triaxials to see if it could be viable since I can't get the
frits anymore, but if anybody know substitutions for these frits please let
me know!

Hi Candy,

I have had success with a low fire copper red using Frit 3134. I have =
found
that it is such a versatile frit that I use it in anything I want to =
melt,
including my Mason Stain washes. It might be worth a try.
