Hi Dick, you can read more about and/or buy my extruding
videos on my website:
http://www.farmpots.com
They are a 3 DVD set, and Volume I is called "Extrusions as
Handles, Feet, and Additions", and is specifically about using
extruded additions on thrown pots.
I have always been primarily a "wheel" potter, but I have
always used my extruder to make additions for my pots.
The extruder is used, in some capacity, for probably 75% of
my output.
I really expanded my use of the extruder about 8 or 10 years
ago, when I was suffering from wrist pain. I gave up throwing
for several months, to allow my wrists to rest, and concentrated
on extruder-based handbuilding. I now make probably 10-to-20%
of my work without the wheel (most with the extruder).
It has opened up a lot of new ideas for an old "wheel man"
Volume II of the series, by the way, is called "Hollow Extrusions
Made with Two-part Dies", and Volume III is "Extrusions as
Handbuilding Components & the Expansion Box for Large
Extrusions".
Thanks to Tom for his kind words about the videos on Clayart - I
will be shipping out 6 sets and 2 single volumes to Clayarters
today because of his mention. I hope they will inspire and encourage
you to try some new things.
