I think John made a good point of mattes and it was
one of those things I also looked for when making a
selection for a matte other than a cooling cycle
alone. Magnesium mattes are unique and often soft. I
often ran way out of limits most calculation tools
offer, where calcium was in use to obtain varying
degrees of mattes, calculated with fluxes to achieve
good melt and enhanced by slower cooling in some
cases.
Brad, I am sorry you had a fall and broke some ribs. I
hope you get better soon. Artists who prefer working
for ourselves do have problems getting good insurance
and cannot match what we could get if we worked in the
corperate (often mundane) world, may I say the price
of what we do becomes much more than some can afford
without changing their vocation.
My new life has came with major learning curves. The
costs of these changes have been pretty steep so I
must push the envelope a little more. I still read
what pottery information I can early in the morning
but by noon everything is all fuzzy and my head begins
to fill up with over-information. I almost feel out of
place now days talking about glazes and not being as
close as I once was to the art and practice of clay.
The mugs are going out to those who exchanged with me,
a couple a week, just to let those know I have not
forgotten you. I was able to pull up most of the lost
information and a few wrote me back so I am back to
shipping again.
